If you can’t come on the day to witness the handing in of petitions to the Pakistani embassy or 10 Downing Street, you can still sign the online petitions run by the day’s organisers, the British Pakistani Christian Association.
They are currently running three petitions:
- A call for UK government to use our aid to Pakistan to support better human rights for Pakistani Minorities
- A call for Asia Bibi, the farm-labourer mother of 5 sentenced to death under false blasphemy charges, to be freed (There are also a lot of other petitions around calling for the same thing – google them)
- A call for a radical overhaul of Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws
In addition, the BPCA is supporting an Early Day Motion in Parliament, recognizing the work of Shahbaz Bhatti and calling on the government of Pakistan to urgently reconsider reviewing the blasphemy laws. You can read the text of the EDM and see if your MP has signed it on this government webpage. If your MP hasn’t signed, please contact them, draw it to their attention and urge them to sign it. There is a template MP letter you can use on our ‘Spread the Word’ page.
And don’t forget to get friends to sign and to spread these petitions around on social networking sites!
